Aquarama #173 was built in 1966 and sold new in 1967. This sale was to Industrialexport, an agency of the government of the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. This Riva was used by Ceausescu on inland freshwater lakes near the capital city of Bucharest. With fall of the Ceausescu regime, and Communism, in December of 1989 all the property of Ceausescu, including this Riva, reverted to the state.
In 1997 officials of the Romanian government contacted Ing. Carlo Riva to see if he was interested in acquiring this boat. After 2 years of legal and bureaucratic wrangling Ing. Riva had the boat returned to RAM in Italy. At that time it had approximately 250 hours of use since new.
Carlo Riva oversaw any necessary repairs and restorations required at that time. Those included: new bottom panels, minor engine overhaul, & new varnishing.
Since that time, AQ 173 came to the US with an new owner and has had some 250 more hours of use.
The present owner has now had AQ 173 restored properly including new hull sides, decks, covering boards, and all upholstery. This restoration has used all correct Riva materials when possible.
Aquarama now is in Ft. Lauderdale, on a 2008 custom Rocket tandem axle trailer, awaiting a new owner
Offered at $435,000 US
